San Francisco Inspired

Posted in Walls by BLDG on October 21, 2010

It was an amazing few days in San Francisco. I was thoroughly impressed by the new space from White Walls Gallery. Their debut show featured the artwork of Mike Shine. It was a visual roller coaster of amazing work. This one is well deserving of a tip of the hat.

Vhils

Posted in Walls by BLDG on August 6, 2010

Vhils has quickly become a crowd favorite in my book. I think what really catches my eye is when people push the process. Vhils takes a pretty classic stencil cut technique and puts his own personal spin on it. He incorporates nature and other found elements into his color palette. He even carries these principles into his screen prints, which often times include bleach as one of the colors. I think this video really sums up Vhils style and approach to his art.

Eine, Simply Good

Posted in Walls by BLDG on August 3, 2010

I’ve always been drawn to art that makes an impact on a particular movement. It’s hard sometimes because this art isn’t always the most technically mastered stuff. I guess coming from a design background I really respect the power of an identifiable style. Shepard Fairy, love him or hate him, has mastered a style. The London Police have turned a simple smiley face into an immediately recognizable icon. Space Invader owns the Rubik’s Cube. All of these artists have risen above the crowd because of this basic principle. Its almost like a kick in the pants how quickly you can recognize these artists. One particular kick for me has been Eine. I’ve been following his work for a while now and he has continued to stay true to his path. When you look at Eine’s installations there is no question who created it. For that, Mr. Eine, I tip my hat in your general direction.

CLeon Peterson Print Release 4/14/10

Posted in Walls by BLDG on July 12, 2010

The BLDG is real excited to release a new print series by artist Cleon Peterson. For those of you unfamiliar with Cleon’s work he is know for creating anxiety-riddled worlds fueled by violence and chaos. Cleon produces a world where deviance is the norm and his characters are forced to navigate through a lawless terrain. Both prints measure 13.5 x 17.5 and are printed on heavy 100% cotton paper using ink so bright it may cause blindness. The prints will be released sharply at 1:00 pm EST on July 14th.

Jessco White Highway To Hellbilly

Posted in Walls by Mike on May 31, 2010

We just finished up another awesome print for Keith Neltner. Keith joined forces with Jessco White to design the official “Highway to Hellbilly” tour poster. Nothing caps off a holiday weekend better than a little printmaking and mountain dancing. Keep your eyes open for stray prints on http://www.neltnercreative.com.

Cleon On Fire

We just completed our latest edition for Cleon Peterson and these things are smoking. Printed on 100% cotton paper using neon colors makes for quite an impressive sight. It is possible that staring directly at these prints could cause permanent damage to the retina.

Cash for your Banksy…hot off the press!

Posted in Walls by Mike on May 13, 2010

A lot of you may have seen these signs sprouting up all over. We had the great fortune to bump into the artist behind the madness. A few pints later we decided to take on the deceptively simple challenge of reproducing these installations in the form of a screen print. We couldn’t help but see a little irony in the over the top use of super expensive cotton paper peppered with gloss varnish and custom mixed inks. These prints will shipped to the artist for signing and will be available for purchase later this month.
