The Calm During the Storm

Posted in Walls by BLDG on April 4, 2011

High winds and rain that appears to be coming from the ground has put a slight delay in Vhils arrival at the BLDG. Stay tuned, we have some pretty wild ideas bouncing around for an epic print and mural project. In the mean time enjoy these classics:

On Deck, Hargo

Posted in Walls by BLDG on January 25, 2011

Once again the Sheehan print’s did not stick around very long. All orders are currently en route to their final destination. We have one more print left in that series so stay tuned. That brings us to our next fancy print by artist Hargo. The print, based off an installation piece done in Miami, will be available for consumption sometime next week.

4 Days In Amsterdam

Posted in Walls by BLDG on September 27, 2010

It has been an amazing few days of travel. We have had the great fortune to visit with old friends, meet new friends and add some unforgetaible memories to the ole’ book of life.

(Meeting up with Chaz & Bob, the masterminds behind the London Police for a little pool action)

(The most amazing Indian food male sauna combo in all of Amsterdam…honestly this food rocked!)

(En route to Brussels for “Ladies First” art opening at Art Space Leguit gallery. Train Bingus anyone?)

(Lads spotted next to some lady boys)

(A lot of hard work in preperation for the opening…trust us, we can empathize)

(Amazing art…I tip my hat to you ladies)

(ummmm more please)

A big shout to Chaz and family for a great time and place to crash. Another big shout to the newest all girls’ group of artists for gracing these eyes with inspiring paintings, installations, textile and rockn’ energy.

“Turkey Hill” Print Release

Posted in Walls by BLDG on August 19, 2010

It has been a while since I have released a print of my own. I decided to take a step back from the squeegee and get in touch with my inner artist. Oddly enough, there was whiskey involved…lots of it. I decided to produce a series of prints in which I physically incorporate my subject matter into the print. For this first print titled “Turkey Hill” I mixed 101 proof Wild Turkey bourbon into each color. A pint of whiskey and a few shots later I had the first print in the series. The print is a 5 color edition of 40 printed on 290 gsm cotton paper and will be available 8/25/10 for $35. For all those who are wondering, yes this print does in fact smell and taste like whiskey.

Vhils

Posted in Walls by BLDG on August 6, 2010

Vhils has quickly become a crowd favorite in my book. I think what really catches my eye is when people push the process. Vhils takes a pretty classic stencil cut technique and puts his own personal spin on it. He incorporates nature and other found elements into his color palette. He even carries these principles into his screen prints, which often times include bleach as one of the colors. I think this video really sums up Vhils style and approach to his art.

Book ‘Em Alexander

Posted in Walls by BLDG on August 5, 2010

I first came across Alexander Korzer-Robinson while attending the festivities at art Basel in Miami. He was a real prime time player and stood out from the crowd. His work is mesmerizing, it literally draws you in. I’ve recently seen his work start to crop up in galleries around the world. Keep your eye on this guy.

The London Police Print Release

Posted in Walls by BLDG on July 23, 2010

The London Police have made their Kentucky encore with this latest print available exclusively at the BLDG. The print titled “Meeting Rod at the Olde Town Tavern” was created while TPL masterminds Chaz and Bob took up residence at the BLDG the week prior to their show. Many late nights were spent at the Olde Town Tavern which became the local bar of choice for the guys from Amsterdam. This hand pulled print on Arches 88 measuring 14″x22″ will be available for purchase on July 29th at 1:00pm EST.

CLeon Peterson Print Release 4/14/10

Posted in Walls by BLDG on July 12, 2010

The BLDG is real excited to release a new print series by artist Cleon Peterson. For those of you unfamiliar with Cleon’s work he is know for creating anxiety-riddled worlds fueled by violence and chaos. Cleon produces a world where deviance is the norm and his characters are forced to navigate through a lawless terrain. Both prints measure 13.5 x 17.5 and are printed on heavy 100% cotton paper using ink so bright it may cause blindness. The prints will be released sharply at 1:00 pm EST on July 14th.

New BLDG Projects in the Works

Posted in Walls by BLDG on August 14, 2009

Things have picked up at The BLDG and inversely proportionally slowed down on our blog. Let me fill you in…

BLDGrefuge.com launched with sales the very first day, great news. We released a second print, went well and we’re getting ready to release our first fine art print, a piece by Matt Haber. The print shop has quite a few pieces in queue from artists like Andy Kehoe, Mike Egan, Hannah Stouffer and we’re working with a couple others who are creating work specifically for us. The BLDG’s exterior is getting a face lift as I type and the gallery has been completely revamped… next, the store needs to go up. All this, plus preparing for our gallery’s grand opening in October has kept us pretty busy!

More soon! Until then… photos!

Matt Haber – Color mixing

Posted in Walls by BLDG on July 30, 2009

Our next print is shaping up to be an 9 or 10 color print. It’s going to be printed on a Stonehenge 100% cotton rag paper. This piece is more in the new brow/modern art genre and less in the urban art arena… All we can say is that The BLDG is a melting pot. Anyway, we’re really excited about this print and this artist, Matt Haber, in general. So excited, that we *might* have to try to get Matt in the gallery at some point to show some work.

We will be releasing the preview of this print next week… until then… color mixing process shots
