The London Police are in and at it!

The London Police have landed in Northern Kentucky and are hard at work on putting the last few finishing touches on their canvases before moving on to hitting the gallery and streets with their murals. Here’s a few teaser shots of Chaz working on a Kentucky Bourbon based canvas, that very well could become a print… (hint, hint)…

The London Police Public Lecture

Posted in Walls by BLDG on March 10, 2010

The BLDG, in conjunction with The Art Academy of Cincinnati, are proud to present a public lecture by The London Police on March 18th, from 11.30am-12.30pm. The talk will be hosted by The Art Academy (1212 Jackson St.) in the main lecture hall.

Come out and hear The London Police talk about their work, their process and basically anything else they want to talk about.

TLP’s highly interactive and comical style will be applied to a public speaking engagement hosted by the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Mark it on your calendars, take an early lunch and don’t miss this once in a lifetime chance to see/hear one of the infamous public talks from The London Police.

The London Police “Call for Walls”… You Got ’em, We Need ’em!

Posted in 1 by BLDG on March 3, 2010

The BLDG is excited to be bringing in some of the godfathers of street art, The London Police for an amazing, Kentucky based, show on March 19th (8-11pm) called “The London Police Ride Again”

They are flying in from Amsterdam next weekend and have showed extraordinary interest in installing a large scale exterior mural while they’re in town. We’ve got several spots offered to us, but we’re trying to see what else is out there. If you’ve got a rad spot that you think is begging for a TLP mural or you know someone who does, please shoot us an email with some info about the wall and who we need to talk to about acquiring it.

Technical Stuff: The wall has to be fairly smooth. Like, newer smooth brick or plaster or concrete or something like that. The old brick that is so prolific in this area is no good, as TLP writes directly on the wall with paint markers, so the smoother the better.

Thanks to everyone for their help and support! We look forward to seeing you all at the opening!

As a photographer myself, I can’t help but love most of JR’s work. I, personally, think this video rivals BLU’s MUTO in that it truly shows the effect that street art can have on a community of people. It’s more of a mini documentary on a a single install of art. My favorite part is when a woman makes the comment that she hopes it stays up at least long enough for her to stop noticing it. I think that’s the point of street art. It isn’t to make a piece of art that goes down in history forever and leaves a legacy for the artist, it’s to make a comment on society, politics, the world, etc. that people can be challenged with and chew through.
