Ryan Milner Print

Posted in Walls by BLDG on June 17, 2009

So we at The BLDG are constantly looking at/seeking out/buying/selling/trading/drooling over/being disappointed by/etc. art prints and original works. For instance, yesterday we both raced each other to see who got their Shepard Fairey, “Duality of Humanity 5” print first… Mike won, but I blame fowl play on our WiFi dropping out.

I thought it would be appropriate to toss up a new print I picked up at The Phone Booth Gallery a bit back. The print is by Ryan Milner and it’s called, “I Kill the Busdriver” looks to me to be inspired by The Dark Knight or that Carousel commercial or something, very nice either way. It’s a nice print on nice paper…

A good friend of ours, Israeli artist Know Hope, recently had an opening for his solo show, “The Times Won’t Save You (This Rain Smells of Memory” at The Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art. If you missed it, at least make sure you get out to see the show while it’s up. We’re stoked to be working with him in July on several exclusive prints… keep your eyes peeled!

Our next print: Fefe Talavera’s “Mama Quilla”

Posted in Walls by BLDG on June 10, 2009

We’ve just received Fefe’s newest design, exclusively found at The BLDG, entitled “Mama Quilla” It looks like we’ll begin printing this piece tomorrow. Her latest in a series of monsters, it’s a 4 color (Black, Metallic Silver, Red, and Turquoise) This piece is a phenomenal example of Fefe’s talent and vision. She explains her inspiration for this piece:

“The Incas had a myth concerning lunar eclipses that is fairly common among ancient peoples. In these stories the Moon is always attacked by some force or creature that manages to swallow the darn thing, only to be defeated in the end by some big-shot hero. For the Incas, this creature was the snake or puma, and the Moon itself was a goddess known as Mama Quilla. Analogous to her solar husband Inti, Mama Quilla was portrayed as a silver disk with a human face. She ruled over calendars and the measurement of time, and kept protective watch over married women.”
